LEADERSHIP
Founder & President of The Medical Specialties Committee
-
In my first year of medical school, I founded the Medical Specialties Committee to address my classmates' anxiety about specialty selection by showcasing the daily aspects of various fields. I selected six members through an application process, each with specific roles. We organized events with keynote physicians from the community who presented their specialties and answered questions. With 40-90 students attending each event, my school expressed their interest in the committee’s expansion. Through precise planning and networking, I expanded the committee, which now operates on all three campuses, each with its own members and leadership, where I serve as a liaison for operations and outreach.
Vice President of AMSA
-
It was my pleasure to serve as Vice President of the Utah State University chapter of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) for a year, where I organized keynote medical speakers for students to learn from. We also participated in various service projects, including teaching hygiene lessons at elementary schools and selling seasonal treats to raise funds for UNICEF.
Biology
Teacher's Assistant & Tutor
-
After completing the course, myself, I worked as a teacher’s assistant for the Biology course at Utah State University. I met with students in one-on-one or group settings to prepare for labs, upcoming assignments, and exams. For each Biology exam, I elected to hold a pre-exam review for the class taken out of my own time. I prepared my material to present what I knew would be significant, and then I would allow them ample time to ask as many questions as needed. I was glad to witness grades improve as a result.
Biomechanics Teacher's Assistant & Tutor
-
While working as a teacher’s assistant for Biomechanics, I was responsible for teaching my own lab hour. Each week was a new biomechanics-based lab topic and activity. I provided attendance quizzes at the beginning of each lab, coming up with examples that I knew would assist them with exam preparation. I became more proficient in body angle measurements, body force dispersion, kinesiological performance, rehabilitation, and injury prevention. From the beginning of the lab course to the end, my students’ grades and understanding improved.
Assistant to the Mission President
-
At 19, I volunteered for a two-year service mission in the Marshall Islands, where I became fluent in Marshallese and embraced a new culture. My leadership journey culminated as Assistant to the Mission President, overseeing the needs and safety of 120 service members across 20 remote islands, often reachable only by HAM radio. This role taught me profound responsibility and the importance of empathy as I engaged in meaningful conversations and served the local community. Through building homes and fostering relationships, I learned to adapt, listen intently, and appreciate diverse ways of life. This transformative experience solidified my commitment to service and personal growth.
Student Body Officer
-
Serving as a student body officer Boy’s Representative in my senior year of high school, I oversaw the organization of the largest assembly of the year and its events. Alongside the main assembly organization, I was a crucial coordinator in every assembly throughout the year, which required communication with school administration and teaching staff. This work needed a flexible yet perseverant work ethic. It required a working knowledge of how to be an efficient team member, implementing ideas beyond my own. I represented the boys of the school and was their voice.
